Just a quick one today as I want to keep the blog momentum going as I have been busy with the back bedroom redocoration and DIY, so not much radio going on.
I was recently inspired by a HAM station I heard in Florida who was operating his station in New York over the internet, he could control just about every aspect of his station, from re-booting the wi-fi modem to rotating his antenna array.
With this in mind I just wanted the simplest way of operating, so I found this site which lets you control the desktop of the 'home' pc remotely - https://secure.logmein.com/
Then I used Skype to control the 2 way audio.
The results have been very good on local FM as you would expect, even on SSB I have got good reports locally, no DX as yet.
I will post some more in-depth info when the back room is done...hopefully soon.
Paul,
ReplyDeleteJust a quick reply as only have 2 mins before the contest starts. It's on QRP frequencies of 7090 and 14285 on the 40 and 20M band. Bye for now, Adam
Morning Paul,
ReplyDeleteBeen at it for 2.5 hours now and no contact yet! I have heard a c few Russian stations and learnt a few numbers for a brief contest exchange but my problem is they are speaking Russian and I can't understand their callsign! I had hoped a few Western European members of the Club or some English-speaking Russian would turn up but that has not been the case. There is now loads of QRM either side of 7090 and as you say, no prop on the higher frequencies, so looks like my membership will not be successful. Damn! I can't use 14285 as I get local QRN to about 14288. 40M is turning into a nightmare! Bye for now, Adam
That station on 7088 is annoying, do you have an IF shift, on mine it does seem to help, keep at it, cheers, Paul.
ReplyDeleteHi Paul, I found your blog through comments you made on Adam's blog. I did experiment as well with remote controlling radio. Although I don't use it for phone but only for digital contacts. I use www.ntrconnect.com. I tried a number of sites bu ntrconnect gives me the best performance. I use Ham Radio de Luxe to control the radio and DM780 for the contacts. Works perfect ! By the way, have we ever met on 11m? Years ago I was very active on FM/SSB. One of my favourites calling on UK channel 38 and made many QSO's into Cornwall and surroundings. I was also very active on SSB, the call was/is 19AT593 and on the UK channels used 19B593. Still, like 11m DX a lot. But since I wanted to do more with the hobby I became a licensed amateur in 1998.
ReplyDelete73, Bas PE4BAS
Hi Bas, I shall have a look at the link, I also use HRD and DM780 but am unable to use data (and legally) only speech through the Skype.
ReplyDeleteWe may have met on 11m, I was very active in the last cycle, I was 26TSW161,26RF161 are two calls I had, on the 555 and 31FM mid block, I even had a contact on FM into New York beleive it or not on the local calling channel, needed 200W to make the trip mind, no QRP !
Like you back then the reason I am working towards to license with Adam at the club is because I want to do so much more than cb will allow, and to do it for once legally, it's really great to be so fired up again about radio, like I was many years ago, even better now though with computers and the internet,at the club on a Monday I have to shut myself up and give other people a chance to speak, it's great to be like this again.
Anyway thanks for making contact on my blog, I went rushing downstairs to tell the wife !!
Cheers and 73, Paul.
