The 10 metre band, music to my ears..

10m is currently the most open I have heard it in a long while, this is great news for any fans of this popular band !

Just worked (1800 BST) EA8BQM for my third contact into the Canary's, also CN3A in Morroco, but best DX so far on 10m, A65BP in the United Arab Emirates for 3534 miles.

Even better is that these were all worked from the mobile at my work location, of course in my 'lunch' break !

  1. Hi Paul,

You are doing really well. I have yet to hear anything on 10 metres this year. Just took a look at 10 when I saw your blog entry and you guessed it...........Nothing!!

  3. Hi Kevin,

It's just like when you see a 'G' report a dx spot, you qsy and hear nothing. From my experience of 11m, it's very early days as yet for this band, try looking around at 2200.

I suppose as well, location/antenna plays a bigger part as well on the shorter wavelength's, though 10 watts through a bottom loaded cb aerial and only 150' asl blows that theory..

    Just lucky.

  4. Hi Kevin, you are lucky, almost no opening here. I also worked CN3A on 10 meter with CW, it was the only station I heard. 73 Paul

  5. Morning Paul,

CN and A6 very, very nice catches. Excellent. I have never had a contact on 10m, probably not least of all because I rarely venture up the band that far. But I am inspired now, and will include it in my regular searches from now on. 73 Adam

  6. 28 Mhz for an ex 11m op is like some strange far away land, but also right on your doorstep, perhaps something like Narnia.

I used to listen a lot on 10m and I'd be really envious of all that bandspace and lack of QRM.

I think Bas would understand what I'm trying to say.

Adam, I have found the dx around 2200, though last night it was from 1800-2000 and nothing at 2200, from what I remember from the last cycle, it used to be Australia early morning, then Europe/Stateside all day, then late afternoon S. America.

I've just realised the Morrocan contacts are my 1st into Africa and the UAE is the farthest east I've worked.

    73 Paul.
